Swamp Things - Nancy's Page
This year I will be a Virtual Walker in the Swedish SummeRun & Walk benefiting ovarian cancer research.
I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013. Since then it's been surgery, chemo, surgery, targeted therapy, surgery, targeted therapy, surgery, surgery, surgery, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, chemo, surgery, and now radiation. (In addition to acupuncture and naturopathic treatments and lots and lots of prayer.) All of this has helped; none of it has cured me. But I'm still hanging in, which makes me one of the lucky ones.
I have lost three friends to ovarian cancer. Carol Polimenakos was one of the first people to welcome me to my church and shared her enthusiasm for art history with me. Elaine Marans shared resources with me and introduced me to my favorite naturopath whose advice has saved my butt more than once. Lisa Glomb was my brilliantly talented director friend and I will always be grateful she dragged me off to a soul-restoring retreat at Harmony Hill. And Lisa's car, "Swamp Thing," inspired the name of our team.
Swamp Things are a great team! In past years we have been leading fundraisers for ovarian cancer research and also placed in the race. Also some of the nicest people you could meet. In past years I have "walked the Walk" as well as talked the talk, but this year I'm too tired from radiation and let's face it, the SummeRun route is too steep for my wanky knees, so I will be a Virtual Walker, but proud to be a member of a great team.
You can help Swamp Things make our fund-raising goal by sponsoring (or joining!) our team. Every dollar you donate supports ovarian cancer research at the Martha Rivkin Center, www.rivkin.org . Raising hopes for better treatments and better outcomes for women with ovarian cancer. Thank you!
