This summer we are participating in the Swedish SummeRun & Walk for Ovarian Cancer for the first time. We are doing this to help raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer in memory Lavanda Turner, whom we lost to a very aggressive form of ovarian cancer in January 2018. Lavanda was full of life, laughter, and love. She loved animals, singing, and having friends over to party. Lavanda was first diagnosed on April 19, 2017 with stage 3 clear cell ovarian cancer. After several surgeries and chemotherapy, on January 17, 2018 she received the news she had a couple of months left. Exactly two weeks to the day of being given a couple of months, Lavanda passed away. While ovarian cancer is treatable if caught early, it is the deadliest of gynecological cancers due to the fact that early symptoms are difficult to diagnose. Our goal aims to help raise awareness and help fund research into early detection, in hopes that one day no one else would lose a loved one to this disease. Please join our team either by walking with us or by donating and together we can do our part to help others.
Our wonderful team is participating in the 2019 Swedish SummeRun & Walk for Ovarian Cancer. The SummeRun & Walk provides a powerful day of support and hope to people who are battling ovarian cancer and the people who love them. Proceeds from the run and walk will support the life-saving work of the Rivkin Center, a Seattle-based non-profit that has become a principle catalyst for national and international research efforts aimed at finding solutions to ovarian cancer.
Since its establishment in 1996, the Rivkin Center has awarded over $11 million in research grants to scientific investigators around the world, making the organization one of the largest private nonprofit funders of ovarian cancer research in the United States. The Rivkin Center also supports education and awareness for ovarian cancer and breast cancer, and early detection high-risk screening.
Please consider joining us this year by donating or signing up for our team. Every person who walks/runs, donates or volunteers is helping make a positive impact on ovarian cancer research, education, awareness, and early detection.
